Hoodie Mag is a professional youth arts publishing project. Participating artists engage in a range of creative practices that explore visual, digital, public, performative and activist art mediums in refreshing and sophisticated ways. At Hoodie Mag we believe young artists should be viewed through an aesthetic lens, rather than a biographical one. The artists presented in this mag are naturally talented, despite their emerging experience and expertise, and deserve creative and critical attention - just like any artist. Hoodie Mag is an Australian production, but we work with young international artists as well. The title of this mag sets up an intentional contradiction and reflects the publications rebellious nature. The hoodie (slang for hooded sweatshirt) is often worn by and associated with young people. This association is not always a positive one. Hoodie Mag presents a group of young artists who are challenging cultural and art world stereotypes. Hoodie Mag was shortlisted in the 60th Annual Australian Publisher Association's Book Design Awards for Best Designed Specialist Illustrated Book and was also nominated for the Best New Publication for and by young people under 30 in the Express Media Literary Book Awards in 2011.
